This Privacy Policy describes how GZLighTek ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information in connection with your use of Aki (the "App"), an AI-powered Japanese conversation coaching app. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following types of information:
- Account information: when you sign in with Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your email address (or an anonymous relay address if you choose to hide your email with Apple) and an identifier from that provider.
- Learning profile: your preferred coach name, native language, current Japanese proficiency level, learning goal, and correction-explanation language — all chosen by you during setup.
- Voice audio: during a practice conversation, your microphone audio is streamed directly to a third-party AI service (OpenAI) for real-time processing and response. We do not store audio files on our servers.
- Conversation transcripts: the Japanese/Vietnamese text transcribed from your spoken practice and the AI's responses, along with corrections identified by the AI (original text, corrected text, natural phrasing, explanation) — these are stored to power progress tracking and personalized review.
- Progress data: speaking minutes, conversations completed, sentences corrected, and daily practice streak.
- Subscription information: if you purchase a subscription, Apple processes all payment details. We only receive subscription status (active/expired) and a transaction identifier — we never see your card details.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Power the AI conversation and correction/grading features
- Personalize review content based on your actual weak points
- Show your learning progress over time
- Authenticate your account and manage subscriptions
- Diagnose and fix technical issues
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
3. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, which may process part of your data:
- OpenAI: processes your voice audio in real time (speech-to-text and conversational response generation) and grades/corrects your sentences. Data sent to OpenAI is subject to OpenAI's own privacy policy.
- Apple (Sign in with Apple, In-App Purchase): handles sign-in authentication and subscription payment processing. See Apple's privacy policy for details.
- Google Sign-In: handles sign-in authentication if you choose to sign in with a Google account.
4. Data Retention
Voice audio is processed in real time and is never retained as an audio file. Conversation transcripts, corrections, and progress data are retained for as long as your account is active, so that review and progress-tracking features work correctly. You may request full deletion of your data at any time by contacting us (see Section 7).
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. All data transmitted to our servers is encrypted using industry-standard TLS encryption. Authentication tokens are stored encrypted.
6. Children's Privacy
Aki is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or 16 in applicable jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately and we will delete it.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. To exercise these rights, or to request deletion of your account and all associated data, please contact us at the address below.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
